Exploring tourism through design
Tourism contributes an impressive £200 million annually to the East Cambridgeshire District, underlining its significance to the local economy. In support of East Cambridgeshire District Council’s tourism strategy—which is centred on reaffirming the Council’s dedication to making East Cambridgeshire an exceptional place to live, work, and visit—the Council sought to launch a digital platform to highlight the district’s numerous attractions.
In collaboration with ECDC, we developed a vibrant new brand identity, and designed and built a comprehensive, interactive tourism website. This platform serves as a one-stop-shop for anyone wishing to explore East Cambridgeshire, providing a wealth of information for visitors. Additionally, all establishments featured on the site receive an ‘As Featured on Explore East Cambs’ logo, which they are encouraged to use on their own websites and marketing materials, further promoting the district and enhancing its appeal to both residents and visitors alike.

From the beauty of the big, open skies and sweeping countryside to the historic city of Ely with its magnificent Cathedral dominating the landscape for miles around, East Cambs is wonderfully eclectic – the Explore East Cambs branding and website needed to reflect this.
The website features tailored itineraries and themed sections based on the type of traveller you are and what you would like to do on your trip. The site also offers a great search tool which allows users to search all accommodation providers, attractions, events, eateries, pubs and bars by the specific facilities you require.
An interactive Explorer map allows visitors to explore establishments in an alternative way to the listings, while the High Street Map was an added feature as part of the Council’s COVID recovery scheme.
